Client Examples
Client: University of Glasgow
Industry type: Nanotechnology- electronic/optical research and production methods
Location: Glasgow, Scotland
The client required a change of use of an existing building and conversion to a leading electronics research/manufacturing nano-fabrication facility. NVM performed measurements and tests for the floor areas in terms of industrial noise and vibration due to existing services and plant; floor dynamic qualities such as accelerance, vehicular traffic, pedestrian inputs, predictions for effects due to additional plant and services. Advice was given addressing criteria for the proposed research equipment and choices to be made for locating and isolating equipment.

Client: Private individual
Industry type: Environmental & Industrial noise complaint and sleep disturbance
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Surveys were undertaken defining noise due to a 24hour warehouse operation, negotiation with the planning authority and environmental health department, representation at a planning hearing.

Client: McDermott, Dubai
Industry type: Offshore hydrocarbon production facilities
Location: Qatar, Offshore
Glass reinforced plastic (GRP) piping was used for gas cooling but Noise and Vibration problems occurred. An onsite survey, tests and investigation were performed. Then, using finite element analysis (FEA), the reasons for the excessive noise and vibration were explained, and permitted a redesign of the piping supports to resolve the problem.
In addition, excessive vibration of fire-pumps and potable water plant were resolved by test/survey, and subsequent studies.

Client: Applied Materials Implant Division
Industry type: Microchip/tool manufacturer
Location: Horsham, West Sussex
A new ion implant machine was displaying a complex industrial noise and vibration problem. An investigation using tests and measurements was performed to define the cause of the problem. Natural frequency and damping characteristics of existing machines were determined in order to compare qualities and establish criteria. Recommendations were made for work to improve the machine behaviour and reduce industrial noise.

Client: Caddick Construction Ltd
Industry type: industrial warehouse development and noise planning
Location: Leeds, Yorkshire
Measurement surveys and predictive methods (noise modelling software) were used to determine the industrial noise emissions from a proposed warehouse site to residential dwellings in the vicinity and the likelihood of complaints.
The operations in the daytime and some vehicle movements on the site at night caused noise that was ameliorated using an earth mound.

Client: Shepherd Design and Construction
Industry type: Hospital, Leisure
Locations: Leeds, Midlands
Noise and Vibration Consultant to various development projects involved environmental and industrial noise and vibration surveys, liaison with the planning and environmental health authorities, design advice for construction, fit-out, equipment installation, noise and vibration amelioration measures.
